If someone wants a challenge and a unique Miata, here's a Italia for sale relatively cheap. Of course, it's a "fixer-upper"...

Isn't the proper term 'mechanic's special'?

Seriously though, those have always looked really awkward to me, like a lot of body change Miata mods. One thing I've noticed is that Miatas are so small some things just don't work well on them. Seems like they would, but then look odd once actually done. Like those (imo) horrible looking 60's Corvette body style Miatas that have been shown on here from time to time. Something about the dimensions always looks off to me on those cars.

When I was in college late 1990's, early 90's, I had a summer job working for an NYC investment banker who owned owned a 600 SEL, a 500 SL, a Lexus LS 400 and the SC400. Occasionally I would get to drive them. The SEL was a tank, when the doors "sealed" it was like being in a vault. The SL 500 could fly. Both German cars were problematic, he ended up getting rid of same and was huge proponent of the Lexus brand. At the time I was driving a Camaro that was an incredible piece of junk, so to drive any of the four luxury cars was an absolute treat. Man, those were the days!

baritone mike

18th October 2021, 16:53

I don't think BRG was a factory color in 88, and even if it was that Jeep has been repainted. The fenders say "joop" not "jeep" and they are missing the Wrangler badges on the rear quarter panels.

This is a 1995 so the Wrangler badge was just a sticker, but you can see the silver jeep on the fender

18th October 2021, 17:19

My friend had a 91 Jeep Wrangler. He said that it was by far the worst vehicle he ever owned and would never buy another one. He has stuck by that statement. He had one just like the 95 pictured in #332; half hard doors and all.

There is a horrible design flaw (or feature if you as Jeep people) when it rains and you have the wipers on water gets pushed by the bottom end of the wiper to right to the seam of the fold down windshield. The water then proceeds to move around to the left side of the to the three way seam with the half hard door and soft window and the windscreen.

There is a small gap right there.

Water gets shot through that gap right into your face when you get to speeds over 50 mph. I am told that if you never take the doors off or take the soft windows off this gap doesn't occur and the three way seam stays water tight-ish.

Those are great highway cars, and black is a fairly rare color for them. I have the only black Roadmaster (93 Limited) in east TN.

Unlike most GM cars, the Limited was actually more than just an appearance package. The rear drum brakes are much larger than the regular versions. They look like something you would see on a large truck.

That's a Plymouth Fire Arrow. They made great rally cars back in the olden days. Made in Japan by Mitsubishi & imported to your friendly Plymouth dealer.

I was 20 yrs old in 1977 and started working full-time. Saved up money and bought a brand-new 1978 Plymouth Arrow with the same copper-tone color as this one. Put a set of header and a rear louver on it. Drove it until 1983 and passed it on to my younger brother. He drove it a few more years and sold it when it had close to 200K miles. A really reliable car.

I had one in 1973. It was a good car for me to get to school in and to work and back. It rusted really bad in NE Ohio winters even washing it almost every day (kids did that back then). I really like the elegant way they integrated the shifter.

But anyway, it's probably the most reliable BiTurbo you could buy.

I always wonder what motivates someone to do a project like that. Done by people that really knew what they were doing it could've been a pretty cool - though odd - car in the end. But you can see by the fine install work ie the aforementioned shifter and gauges 'integration' - that the people doing it were hacks. So they ended up with a mess that after being picked of a few parts, will likely be headed straight for the crusher.

I always wonder what motivates someone to do a project like that.

In 1990 I bought a Chevy Impala, 350 automatic, complete running car, from the police department for $800. Presumably the same car could've been bought for less if it had body damage.
I used it as an airport car (that is pilot speak for beater).

I'm sure there were people giving away their dead engine 1984 Bi-turbos.
Footnote, from Wiki: " The Biturbo is number 28 in the BBC book Crap Cars and in 2007 was selected as Time's worst car of 1984, although they ranked the Chrysler TC by Maserati as a "greater ignominy"

This was not a big bucks swap like we do with the LS engines.
This is just a case of Bubba doing what Bubba's do

HF stands for high Fidelity - to honor the HF Squadra Corsa - all competition cars were named HF by Lancia in the 60s and it became their M division so to speak a couple of decades before BMW made their own.

Once Fiat took over Lancia in the 70s it became the symbol for the sportier models and less to do with actual competition, until the Delta integrale.

The original HF designation was on the Fulvia, the HF models were all aluminum with higher tune of power and setting. The 1.6 HF fanalone was the first Lancia wrc championship car.

The beta was never a proper replacement to the Fulvia, too much Fiat, not enough Lancia, unfortunately.

They certainly are driven differently, but FWD is extremely good handling. I drove both, FWD and RWD, cars during my race career. The FWD cars were so much easier to keep from spinning out than the RWD. It takes some experience to learn one from the other, but apples to apples, the rwd cars couldn't compete, so they were more relaxed rules for them. They still got spanked by the few of us in FWD cars. Fun watching guys wreck themselves trying to take out the FWD cars, keep the steering wheel in the direction you want the car to go and stay in the gas.:jump:
My FWD cars were CRX's and an Integra, Honda knows what they are doing.

Just sayin, when pushed to limits, I'd rather rely on FWD. I'd love to have a TVR or two, though.:)

https://inlandempire.craigslist.org/cto/d/wildomar-1974-albany-runabout-super-low/7406165025.html

The ad:
This is a 1974 Albany runabout, made in England, and is one of only 12 imported to the US. It resembles a 1908 Buick, but most people think it is a Ford Model T. It has been driven only 2604 miles since new. The speedometer and odometer work, the gas gauge works, the temperature gauge works (all gauges are original), as do the head and tail lights, brake lights, turn signals, and back-up light. It has an aaa-OOO-gah horn that is a big attention-getter. It is mechanically sound, there are no oil leaks, and it does not overheat. It is thankfully left-hand drive. The tires have been replaced, but the spare is an original. This car was sold new in California, has been garaged, and is rust-free.

It has the original drive train which includes a Triumph Spitfire engine with 4-speed transmission, and Morris Minor brakes, suspension, and differential. It had been in storage 14 years when I acquired it from an estate in April, 2018. I installed a new radiator, water pump, thermostat, fuel pump, ignition switch, solenoid, brake wheel cylinders, clutch master cylinder, battery, hoses, and fan belt. The original brake drums and shoes are like new. Parts are readily available.

This car can be driven daily, and gets lots of smiles, waves, honks, and thumbs-up. I have personally driven it 462 miles and it has never "failed to proceed". It cruises easy between 45 and 50 mph. I don't know its top speed, but it is much easier to drive than a stock Ford Model A, has a lot more power, and the brakes are dramatically better. It will fit into any garage with an opening of 82.5" high. The top can be lowered. I have added a 12 volt power outlet. The car originally came with a radio which has been removed, and the original speaker covers have been replaced. It has seat belts for two people. No smog check required.

$17,500. Call 951-402- 49 eight two. Ask for Rick. I will return all messages and emails. I might consider trading for a Mazda MX5 Miata with automatic transmission, of equal value.

Absolutely, the MT and the RWD are for the sports cars or people who wish they were driving a sports car, and the FWD and autotragic are for the people just trying to get transported without their bus pass.

Wow, brings back memories. In 1976 my mechanic buddy sold me a 66 4dr. Chevelle that had been T-boned on the passenger side just like this Ford. Paid just $200 for it. Otherwise the car was immaculate. I had really nice wheels on the drivers side and steelies just like these on the passenger side. We used the car in movies, filmed just from the drivers side. My brother was an art director in Hollywood.

Nice! I remember particularly clearly ductaping the upper radiator hose on one of those back when i was in junior college. It was a buddy's car, and she was about 6' tall and...well, it didn't suck to see her checking out the engine and the coolant vapor cloud coming out. The patch got her home. To be fair, even the official Morgan is a design of a replica some company from Seattle did based on the 30s Morgan, that Morgan purchased from them to sell under their own name.

The jzr has been around a lot longer, since the 90s and if my memory is right, the gearbox came out of a Ford Cortina. Been a long time since I drove one, tho - so maybe I am wrong but that's what my memory says. Ido remember that the one I drove also had a guzzi engine
