Biografie

Sinds juli 2019 ben ik werkzaam als traumachirurg. Een traumachirurg is betrokken bij de behandeling van alle soorten letsels: van botbreuken tot aan verwondingen aan of in de buik of borstkas, en van een simpele botbreuk aan een vinger tot aan meerdere complexe letsels tegelijkertijd, als gevolg van bijvoorbeeld een verkeersongeval of een val van grote hoogte.

Het mooie aan traumachirurgie vind ik dat ik te maken krijg met alle soorten patiënten, of het nu kinderen, volwassenen of oudere patiënten betreft. Ook de intensieve samenwerking is uitdagend: bij de opvang van een traumapatiënt na bijvoorbeeld een groot verkeersongeval, werk ik nauw samen met bijvoorbeeld SEH-artsen, collega traumachirurgen, anesthesiologen of orthopedisch chirurgen. De variatie van de type breuken (“fracturen”), waarbij soms conservatief behandeld wordt (met gips), of waarbij een technisch operatieplan op maat gemaakt moet worden, maakt dit vak zo leuk.

Ook ben ik gespecialiseerd in de behandeling van het chronisch compartimentsyndrooom. Op de operatieve behandeling, een zogeheten ‘fasciotomie’, ben ik in 2017 gepromoveerd. Ik verricht wetenschappelijk onderzoek naar het chronisch compartimentsyndroom en schrijf hier artikelen over.
