Amid changes in 2025 NASCAR schedule, Martinsville Speedway to again host 2 triple-header weekends, final playoff races (2024)

The 2025 NASCAR schedule features quite a few changes, but everything looks pretty similar when it comes to Martinsville Speedway.

NASCAR announced the 2025 schedule for all three top series on Thursday.

Martinsville will again host two triple-header NASCAR race weekends, including the final playoff races for the Cup, Xfinity and Craftsman Truck Series before championship weekend.

Next year’s fall playoffs race weekend will be on Oct. 24-26. The fall races will once again act as the lead-in to the championship for each series for the fifth straight season.

The biggest difference for Martinsville is the spring race weekend, which will be held on March 28-30. It will be one week earlier than the spring weekend this year, and the first time since 2019 Martinsville has hosted a race in March.

During each weekend, the Trucks will race on Friday, Xfinity on Saturday and Cup on Sunday. Times for each race have not been announced.

“Having Martinsville Speedway hold two prominent positions on the NASCAR schedule once again is proof of what this track means to the sport and its fans,” Martinsville Speedway President Clay Campbell said in a release from the track. “Martinsville Speedway has been around since the earliest days of NASCAR, and we love that we get to bookend our racing season with a pair of intense, action-packed races.”

Martinsville will host six races over the next two months, beginning with the ValleyStar Credit Union 300 late model stock car race on Sept. 28.

On Oct. 26, the short track will host the Virginia Is For Racing Lovers 300, featuring a 100 lap race for the Mazda MX-5 Cup and 200 lap race for the Whelen Modified Championship Race. A week later, it will host the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and Xfinity Series on Nov. 1-2, and finish the year with the NASCAR Cup Series Xfinity 500 on Nov. 3.

Tickets for any Martinsville Speedway race this fall or in 2025 are available by phone at (877)RACE-TIX or online at www.MartinsvilleSpeedway.com.

NASCAR returning to Richmond in August

NASCAR announced this week it would take one race weekend from Richmond Raceway in 2025 to instead race at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez circuit in Mexico City.

Other than the 2020 season that was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, Richmond has hosted two NASCAR Cup Series races each year since 1960.

Richmond’s lone NASCAR race next year will be held on Aug. 16, the second-to-last race before the beginning of the playoffs.

The race will be held on Saturday night, with the start time announced at a later date.

Richmond will also host the Craftsman Truck Series regular-season finale on Aug. 15.

“Returning the NASCAR Cup Series to Saturday night at Richmond Raceway is something our fans have wanted for some time,” Richmond Raceway President Lori Collier Waran said in a release from the track. “It’s going to make for an incredible summer night of racing here in the Commonwealth, and we’re going to make it an unforgettable experience for our fans.”

New race dates at Bristol Motor Speedway

As expected, the date for the 2025 Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway has been shifted to April 13, with the Night Race set for Sept. 13.

For the first in track history, both race weekends at BMS will feature all three of NASCAR’s marquee series, as the NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will join the Cup Series for three days in April and three nights in September.

The Food City 500 has been moved four weeks later than last year’s event, which was held on St. Patrick’s Day weekend in March.

Along with the Cup race, the April race weekend will include the Xfinity Series race on April 12, and the Truck Series race on April 11.

“We had so much fun with our retro-themed Food City 500 that we are going to do it again and bring in some different elements this time around to add to the experience,” said Jerry Caldwell, president and general manager of Bristol Motor Speedway.

The Night Race will once again serve as the cut-off race in the Round 16 of the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs, and will move to one week earlier on the calendar from September 11-13.

For the second time in track history, all three NASCAR races during the weekend will be playoff events, as the UNOH 200 presented by Ohio Logistics will be Race 2 in the opening round of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Playoffs and the NASCAR Xfinity Series will open its playoffs at Bristol with the Food City 300.

Other changes

In addition to the new race in Mexico City and the previously announced NASCAR Clash moving to Bowman Gray Stadium, NASCAR also announced on Thursday the Xfinity and Craftsman Truck Series will race at Rockingham Speedway on April 18-19 while the Cup Series takes time off for Easter that weekend.

The North Carolina track last hosted a Truck Series race in 2013 and a Cup Series race in 2004.

The NASCAR playoffs will begin at Darlington Raceway on Aug. 31, with Daytona International Speedway returning to host the regular season finale the week prior.

World Wide Technology Raceway and New Hampshire Motor Speedway will host playoff races, while Homestead-Miami, Watkins Glen, and Atlanta will only host races during the regular season.

Easter Weekend will be the only off week on the Cup schedule.
