What is Korean Strawberry Milk?

Fresh strawberry milk (생딸기우유) is an incredibly popular drink in Korea that is made with 100% real ingredients, to bring out the natural flavors of strawberries as opposed to using any artificial flavorings.

3-Ingredient Korean Strawberry Milk | Cookerru (1)Made with a base of strawberry puree and chunks of fresh strawberries, this is easily one of the most satisfying and flavorful drinks I have tried in South Korea.

Since then, this has been my go-to drink to make for when I have fresh strawberries on hand, as it personally tastes much better than blending into a smoothie and losing all the flavors and textures of the fruit.

Not to mention, this light and refreshing drink is truly the ideal way to brighten up your mornings or to be served as a dessert to conclude your meal with a sweet note.

What do you need to make Korean Strawberry Milk?

Although many recipes of fresh strawberry milk call for pureeing strawberries and sugar to be cooked on a stovetop, this recipe is made within minutes with a simple method with no special tools required.

Not to mention, the combination of strawberries and sweetened condensed milk (used as a sugar substitute) is truly a match made in heaven. 💖

3-Ingredient Korean Strawberry Milk | Cookerru (2)Condensed milk drizzled on top of fresh strawberries has always been my weakness, and this recipe combines all these flavors to make one of the most satisfying drinks ever. I promise you, this one is not to miss!

Here are the 3 simple ingredients you will need for this recipe:

  • Fresh strawberries. Please ensure they are fully ripe as they will be easier to mash, and for maximum flavor.
  • Sweetened condensed milk. Using condensed milk eliminates any cooking process, as there is no need to melt the sugar into the puree. More importantly, it tastes absolutely heavenly when matched with the flavors of strawberries, and makes the drink to be extra smooth and creamy.
    • If you don’t have any condensed milk on hand, you can also substitute it with honey, maple syrup, or sugar, based on preference.
    • If you are using sugar, I recommend letting the puree sit at room temperature overnight (for the sugar to melt naturally), or cooking the puree until the sugar has dissolved. Please ensure the mixture has fully cooled down before assembly, as the milk will curdle otherwise.
  • Your choice of milk.Dairy milk is traditionally served with Korean strawberry milk, but you can also use non-dairy alternatives such as coconut milk, almond milk, soy milk, cashew milk, or oat milk of your choice.

How do you make Korean Strawberry Milk?

3-Ingredient Korean Strawberry Milk | Cookerru (3)This recipe calls for an incredibly easy two-step process that can be made in just minutes without any special tools. It will yield 2 large cups of fresh strawberry milk, but it can be easily doubled or tripled based on your serving needs.

First, break down the strawberries into a puree.

You can make this process easy by using a wire masher, a large fork, or a blender.

You will need to make sure the strawberries are fully ripe in order for them to easily be mashed. Mix in the condensed milk into the mashed strawberries, and there you have it! Fresh strawberry puree made in a matter of seconds.

Second, assemble the drink.

Add the strawberry puree in a serving cup, followed by your choice of milk, and diced strawberries to finish off the drink. The small strawberry chunks are the highlight of this drink, so I highly recommend not skipping this step!

And voila! Fresh strawberry milk made in less than 5 minutes to jumpstart your day on a perfect note.

I recommend serving this drink with a “fat straw” that is used alongside bubble tea or smoothies, as you can easily stir the drink around and sip the strawberry chunks from the drink.

Can you make Korean Strawberry Milk in advance?

3-Ingredient Korean Strawberry Milk | Cookerru (4)Yes! This drink can be made in advance and stored in a large bottle to be served throughout the day. Strawberry milk actually tastes the most ideal when made the day before, as the flavors are enhanced overnight.

Fresh strawberry milk stores well in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days when kept in an airtight bottle.

And there you have it! Fresh strawberry milk in the comfort of your home, just like the ones served in South Korean cafes!
