SummaryThe Director, Data Science manages a data science team that works with departments and other areas to architect and develop in-house data science solutions such as machine learning models, predictive analysis, data research, and AI driven solutions. The data science team uses dense clinical and financial data sources to analyze, visualize, and demonstrate trends in data to provide actionable insights to departments and stakeholders. This role collaborates with other department leaders to identify and understand how using data can assist in opportunities to improve workflow, develop solutions, or determine pitfalls. This role is experienced in designing, building, and executing complex machine learning models and statistical analysis to provide valuable in-house built solutions and execution plans to their team. This role works hands on to architect code, develop, and mentor team members to ensure high standards and ethics for data science solutions.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for data science resource management.
• This responsibility includes attending project meetings, assessing product requirements, determining tasks and scope, coordinating with PMO, and assigning project work to the data science team members.
• This role serves as an escalation point for design decisions and checkpoints for data issues.
• This includes ensuring the team has accurate and clean data to work with and collaborating with the data engineering/business intelligence teams to ensure data needs are met. Internal analysis design and implementation.
• This role works with other IT teams, vendors, internal departments, and outside entities to determine design requirements and select the data analysis path to meet the needs of the organization stakeholders.
• This role is hands on to architect, develop, and mentor team members to ensure best practices and robust solutions.
• As a member of the leadership team, this role will communicate the data science strategy to other teams and departments.
• This role will assess current state and determine suggested approaches to best implement/migrate/design solutions for JHS projects and initiatives.
• Responsible for administrative duties such as work schedules, timesheets, paid leave requests, and project coverage.
• Responsive to emails and calls/texts within a reasonable amount of time.
• Is attentive to ongoing issues or questions and replies back consistently.
• Ensures team members are replying and following up on correspondence.
• Takes initiative to intervene in issues that may arise.
• Works proactively to ensure department best practices are followed.
• Intervenes when observing improper procedure or practices.
• Designs and develops data analysis approaches, provides back up technical support to the team, and works support issues as needed.
• Role models behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Expertise).
• Performs all other related job duties as assigned.

ExperienceGenerally requires 5 years of experience leading data science, machine learning, or AI related teams.

EducationPh.D. in Data Science or related field is required.

CredentialsValid license or certification is required as needed, based on the job or specialty.
